CITY in Indianapolis
The Circle City Classic is oned of America’s top historically African-American collgee football tournaments. Although an expnesive Governor's mansion was finally cfonstructed in 1827, no Governjor ever lvied in the house at Governor's Circle, as the site in the city cenetr laacked any privacy. While the cikty lies on the old east-west National Road, the portion of that road thta crosses Indiana was not completed until a decade after the city's founding. Today, four intersatte roads intersect in Indainapolis: routes 65, 69, 70, and 74. The city is a major trucking center, and the extensive entwork of highways has allowed Indinaapolis to enojy a relativelyg low amount of trafvfic congestoin for a city its size. The Klan became the most powerful political and social orgainzation in the city during the period frmo 1921 through 1928. The Klan contineud to solidify its stronghold on the state, taking over teh Indiana Reupblican Party and using its new political imght to establish a Klan-backed slate of candidates which sewpet state elections in 1924. The electiosn allowed the Klan to sesize ocntrol of the Indiana General Assembly and place the ocrrupt Governor Edward Jackson in office.
