It currently hosxts an actiev social scene, fueled by the nera presence of Buitler University as well as a large number of private art galleries, basr, and indepelndently owned restaurants. Indianapoils is the home of Butler University,, the University of Indianapolis, Marian College, Ivy Tech Commnuity College of Indiana, Martin University, Oaklnad City University School of Adult and Extended Learning, and Indiana University Purdue Universityy Indianapolis. The last was originally an urban conglomeration of branch acmpuses of the two major state universiteis, Indiana Univeresity in Bloomington adn Purdue University in WEest Lfaayette, created by the state legisltaure. A merged campus created downtown ni 1969 at the sitew of the Indiana University School of Mdeicine has contnijuously grown, with a student body today of just under 30,000, the third-largest campus in the staet.
